Artist’s Statement
Bree Tabin’s exhibition, tomboy engages with themes of nostalgia, grief, and gender identity (gender queerness). Working in sculptural, printmaking, and installation works, tomboy opens up an untapped nostalgia sealed by the growing pains of lost play and the gradual process of losing early memories.
Bree Tabin (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist entering the emergent space living on Treaty 4 territory. Working in arts and culture spaces throughout Regina SK, they lead both their creative practice and arts professional work with curiosity and in pursuit of expanding relationships. Maintaining parrhesia and queer identity in their work, Bree creates for expression of duality, community, continual play and connection — making work with bold messaging in rejection of subtlety.
Please join us on March 13th from 5-7 PM, with brief remarks at 5:30, for the opening reception of tomboy at the Fifth Parallel Gallery. In addition to the opening, artist Bree Tabin will also host two exhibition tours on March 13th at 1:15 PM, and March 22nd at 1 PM where they will provide more insight and background on their work. Tabin would like to extend their formal appreciation to the University of Regina Queer Initiative (URQI) program for providing funding for this exhibition.
