Exhibition Statement
Copper intaglio techniques are a small part of what makes up the world of printmaking, yet they embody an understated complexity. With methods such as soft ground, hard ground, drypoint, sugar lift, aquatint, and photo-etching, printmakers hold inexhaustible opportunities to combine and layer techniques to achieve unique compositions. Bite & Burnish offers viewers a glimpse into the possibilities of copper intaglio by showcasing the work of 11 artists alongside their etched copper plates. Presenting both print and matrix highlights the relationship between image and source, emphasizing the creative and expressive possibilities of intaglio printmaking.
