A Collection of Creative Technologies & Design Student Artworks

REMiniscence explores the subconscious where dreams can manifest into our own fragments of identity, memory and emotion, often in ways we cannot fully control or understand. Through interactive installations, digital storytelling, illustrations, and immersive multimedia, this exhibit explores the concept of dreams as both chaotic, sensory abstractions and vulnerable moments of reflection.

Many dreams are based on personal experiences, which the pieces in REMiniscence showcase. Sophie Byers’ Stars Shining is a creative coding art piece accompanied by sound that reflects on her childhood and the nightly stories her father would read to her. In Please Hold, Carmen Jerry’s web-based scrapbook captures the fleeting moments of community, memory, and time. When We Bloom, by Anna Chu, is a gesture-based interactive installation that explores how physical digital systems evoke openness, growth, and vulnerability through ones’ presence. Larissa Rue’s Regrets is an interactive visual story about the recollection of a loved one and the impact of Parkinson’s disease. Enterviduality, by Marc Aplaon, is an interactive website that creates dream worlds to showcase an appreciation for what is discarded through mass human consumption. Starlight, by Shiloh Gonzales, is a digital illustration about the artist’s identity regarding the stars and where she belongs. Brandon Watson’s A.R.C.H.I. is a physical robot that is designed to archive the artist’s various projects. Out, by Samantha Liamzon, is a three-walled projection installation and augmented reality experience about the artist’s journey as a queer Filipina Woman.

While several dreams can be manifested from real-life occurrences, dreams can distort themselves into sensory experiences that are unsettling and difficult to explain as demonstrated in Inbetween and Rolls & Turns, a collection of digital illustrations by Taqwa Tasneem. These artworks encapsulate the sense of being trapped between dreams and reality that even waking offers no escape, as well as the unpredictable chances and outcomes within dreams. On a similar topic, Kadence Meredith’s rEvolving Mirror uses a facial recognition program that invites viewers to confront unseen and unnerving ways technology shapes perception and exposes themselves to others. Carmen Jerry’s Midnight Daydreams is a piece of sound art that expresses the multitude of experiences inside the artist’s head during their alone time at night. Perception, by Larissa Rue, is a TouchDesigner piece that mimics the feeling of anxiety through face tracking and digital art. Carmilla’s Manor, developed by an indie game studio called DopamineVamp, is a horror role-playing game that follows the story of Lauren who traverses through a manor to unravel how twisted Carmilla's mind has become.

Through these various technological methods and mediums, the works of REMiniscence invites the audience to journey through the subconscious and explore different ways our dreams can manifest.
